TSUNAMI RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAM – SRI LANKA

Volunteers –Sri Lanka’s Tsunami reconstruction program focuses on the poorest of poor communities in Galle district of south – western coast in Sri Lanka.

Galle district is one of the severely detested district by the tidal waves of Tsunami on 26th December 2004.Thousands of Thousand families that have lived on the coastal areas for generations lost their homes, their livelihoods and several thousand loved ones in minutes.

According to the government estimates 4.250 were killed more than 234.000 displaced
More than 7000 houses were compliantly destroyed with in few minutes on the sad day of 26th December. As a result of the devastating waves.


Volunteer placement Arranging

• Volunteers – Sri Lanka a registered NGO with the government of Sri Lanka provide you with volunteer placement service in helping less fortunate families who are struggling to build a shelter for their loved ones.
   
• One of the most specific advantage of Volunteering with us is our Main office is located in one of the Devastated city Balapitiya. ( Even before Tsunami) Our staff is always available to work with you and to assist you any of your request. All our working sites are easily accessible from our main office.
   
• Voluntary – Sri Lanka emerged five years back from the same district having very close understanding and linkages with all sectors of the communities, government institutions and with International relief organizations operating in the area. Our staff consist of the friends & relations of tsunami victims, When you are volunteering with International volunteers can enjoy following special benefits as an volunteer.
   
• Your placement is arranged directly by Volunteers – Sri Lanka. You will received better placement relevant to your desire. (We are not a Volunteers sending agency)
   
• In all volunteer Tsunami reconstruction programs International volunteers will work as a multinational Team.
   
• Volunteers – Sri Lanka will employ few Educated English speaking youth from Sri Lanka to eradicate any communication barriers during work and for better communicating with the community.
   
• You will be provide home stay accommodation with a family who can manage to communicate with you in English Language. They will treat you as one of their family member.

  You are not building Houses for them only, You are giving hopes to many suffering families and share with them in the effort of rebuilding their lives.
  
  Experience & Unskilled Volunteers
  Volunteers having any construction experience such as carpentry, cement work, Electrical house wiring etc will be able to use their skills . However our program is mainly geared towards unskilled volunteers with out any construction experience.
  
  In Sri Lanka almost all of the construction work is carried out by manual systems with out using any sort of machinery. Volunteers can help the village community by providing basic labor activities such as shoveling, cement mixing, building brick walls, helping carpenters to build the roof, house wiring with the instructions of house electricians, etc..
  
  YOUR ACCOMMODATION
  Your accommodation will be home stay with Three times food per day . The Homes for your stay will be identified working distance from your work site. Which are not damaged by Tsunami.
